A Post For My Dad **

Oh my my my .. Where to begin? Blogging is kind of like writing in a journal for me. I'll be really good at it for a while then I just drop it. Hopefully I'll be back for a while now! The tough part about this is that I don't even know where to begin. Do I start off from where I quit and try to catch everyone up on what's been going on in my life? Or do I just pick something to talk about?

After several minutes of staring at my screen I have decided to write about my dad.

In 2006 my dad was injured in Iraq, he was working on an f-16 and the wing came down and hit him on the top of the head. Which has since lead to horrible back and neck pain, brain issues, and some memory loss. In the beginning I didn't think that it was too bad, but over the past couple months he has been going to appointments to meet with a neurologist, a speech therapist, and a couple more that I don't remember. He has had multiple tests done, including an EEG, a CT scan, an MRI and several others. For the most part I am the one taking him to and from appointments, because my schedule is the least conflicting and easiest to switch around.

In July he went and spoke to a group of people at a church. After he left he was driving home and he began feeling very weird (he said it was like he spun around 100 times and then stood still). He pulled over, waited for it to stop then went home. When we were on our way to Las Vegas he had the same thing happen again while we were waiting in line to figure out whether we were going to make it on the flight or not. He turned gray and his eyes were very weird and he just acted really odd. We ended up not making it on that flight and we got switched to a different gate. Dad said that he would not be able to walk, so we got him a wheelchair and when we got to the new gate the lady that pushed him had him sign this thing, that was like signing for a package, and his hand could not grab the stylist. It seemed like he had just had a stroke. I was immediately freaking out, he called his speech therapist and she told him to go to the VA in Chicago, but our flight was in 20 minutes and he refused to go. So, we went to Vegas and everything was fine and dandy. He told me he has had one more incident since then and that was in the garage at their house.

If he doesn’t write things down, he simply forgets what it is that ne needs to do and sometimes even say. For example, if he’s trying to recall a recent event, he’ll try to describe it then just say, “oh yah know, whatever, it doesn’t matter.” He does this, like all the time. You may not think it sounds bad, or that I might be exaggerating, but I am not.

Last week I decided to make him a schedule with what everyone was would be doing for the next month, practices, games, work, school, and whatever else I thought he might need a reminder of.

On Monday, he emailed me, and I decided that now was the time to bring up how much worse I think he has gotten recently. I am too much of a chicken shit to talk to him in person, so email seemed like a reasonable idea. I told him that as I know things are so tough for him, things are getting tougher for us now too. He constantly asks us where we are going, what we are doing, etc. even if he just asked us 15 minutes ago, he forgets some things that quickly. Which is why I made the calendar, but I think that maybe this whole traumatic brain injury may be worse than any of us think.

So, I suggested to him that my whole family go visit his neurologist or speech therapist, someone who could help us better understand what’s going on and what else we can do to make things easier for him. I haven’t heard if he has gotten a response yet, but I am hoping that they can come up with something to help us out soon. I really wish they could just figure out what the hell it is that is wrong, and fix it.

However, that is not happening right now, no matter how hard we are trying. So, I guess right now, I am just asking for your prayers for my dad and patience for my family. I know that we don’t make it as easy as we should for him, but we have never had to deal with anything like this before.

Cleaning Lady .. That's Me **

As a part time job, I clean houses. I used to clean with my Aunt Karen, but she has recently decided to do her insurance job full time. When we were cleaning together we had 8 houses to clean. My aunt decided to keep 2 of the easier ones, until her insurance sales go up. So that left me with 6 houses. These are not small houses, by any stretch of the imagination. They are all occupied by families, where only the dad works. The mom stays at home with their kids all day, and we come to clean their homes every other week. Don't get me wrong I am by no means complaining.

We were charging $40 an hour, so 2 hour houses (which is almost all of them) were paying $80. So, I decided to just charge people the same that they were being charged previously. That way when I am doing the job of two people and its taking me about twice as long (sometimes less), it won't cost them any more. I found this to be reasonable.

I just started to clean these houses on my own last week. After I finished the first house, the woman approached me and said, "I have been talking to some of my friends and they said they have people that will clean their house for $20 an hour. It took you 3 hours, so thats about $27 an hour and that's kind of high. My husband and I are looking to cut back, and we know we can get it for cheaper, so.." So I said, that I understand and she said if I want to do it for $20 I can, but if not she's going to find someone else. I told her that I will think about it and get back to her. As a side note, this ladies husband is NEVER home, because he is always traveling with work. She does not work. How much do they honestly need to cut back?

Another lady scheduled me to come tomorrow morning, called me today and said that her and her husband are rethinking and they need to cut back. So, she decides this the day before I am supposed to be there and cancels. They have this huge, beautiful home and she only works, because her kids are grown and she has nothing to do during the days any more. She doesn't need to work.

Both of these ladies know that I am a college student, paying my own way through college, not that it is their problem. But you (at least I) would think that, couples that are that well off would be willing to help a young girl make it through. Especially because they both acknowledged that point and apologized for not being able to help me out. And not only will it be costing them a little more, but they know that I am trustworthy and that I do a good job. If they go to anyone else, they will have a different lady there every time, and who knows how they will do and what they make take when they go.

The other houses I have been to have been great! Very understanding and easy to work for!

But am I really being unreasonable?

Raven's First Bath

Miss Raven got her first bath a couple days ago .. and she LOVES it ! She loves swimming, baths, putting her head in the shower and liking the water, while I am showering ! It' a good thing she is such a good dog :)

On July 30th Doc Boz, her husband Jim, Aunt KK and Uncle Eric, mom and dad, Jason and I left for Las Vegas ! We had 3 separate flights .. Doc Boz and Jim left at 8 and got to Vegas at 1030. KK and Eric left at 630 went to Dallas and had plane trouble so were there for a couple hours .. before getting on another flight and got to Vegas around 3.

The rest of us left at 12 and flew to Chicago .. where we were on an overbooked plane and didn't get on .. originally they were offering a $300 bump .. and since we involuntarily didn't get on we were offered two options .. $130 cash or $198 voucher .. we were not happy .. at all but took the cash. We got to vegas around 5 .. We were going down the escalator to get my moms suitcase .. and I saw a sign that said Happy 21st Birthday Kaitlin ! My group had surprised me and got a limo !

So, we all got in and rode around for awhile went to a bar and got our picture taken in front of the Vegas sign .. then he took us to the hotel !

When we got to the hotel, my mom did some negotiating and got the 4 of us a suite ! Holla !

It was 1500 square feet and we stayed in Ballys .. pretty nice .. it has a bar and 3 toilets .. but only one shower :/ All in all it was pretty darn good :)

Jason and I walked down to the Stratosphere .. longest freaking walk ever .. It was 112 degrees and a 2 mile walk .. I was burning up and had blisters on my feet :( But it was totally worth it to ride the rides and the view was outstanding !

That night we went to Imperial Palace and the dealers there dress up as famous people, and then perform .. it was really neat, but this was the only good picture that I got .. Michael Jackson .. kind of scary though :/

Since I had all those blisters from walking to the Stratosphere .. I chose to walk home barefoot that night and this was the result :/

Jason and I went to Margaritaville to eat lunch on Sunday around noon .. we had just gotten our food and these sirens started going off .. next thing we know, we were asked to calmly evacuate through the front door .. this was the crowd, come to find out the kitchen had caught on fire .. everyone hung around for about 10 minutes then started leaving .. some carrying plates or glasses with their drinks in them .. we stayed for about 30 minutes and had no updates, so finally we just left .. so that was the beginning to our lucky day !

Then we were walking around with everyone else and came upon this man painted in gold .. to get him to move, you have to put money in his box .. good thinking ! It was awesome and he motioned for me to go up by him .. and me being the shy chicken that I am .. almost didn't go .. but I did and he acted like he was kissing me ! Then he gave me these 2 passes to win $2,000,000 .. I was tempted to just throw them away, but since it was so hot out I decided to take them in and use them ..

I gave one to Jason and we had to walk all over Planet Hollywood to get players cards, then find the HUGE slot machine .. we each got one spin .. I went first and got .. nothing ! Then Jason went and got 3 7's .. she said, "Congratulations, you won $50 in free slot play." Then we had to go find the lady to hook us up with that .. she explained the rules and we went and found a machine. Sat down .. went back and forth between $1 bets and $3 bets at a $1 machine .. won $12.00, $10.00, $20.00 then with 9 credits left Jason hit max bet ($3) and we hit $200.00 !

We decided to go back and thank all those involved .. then went back to the man in gold and gave him a generous tip and thank him as well !

The fountain at the Bellagio .. soooo neat !

All in all we had a great trip .. I love Las Vegas and my new goal is to move there .. at least for a little while !

I turned 21 on Monday July 13th .. since it was a Monday, I decided to go to two bars, close to my parents. A Landlord From Hell **

Here is the post that I have been talking about for the past couple days.

Jason used to live in a house near Georgetown, in Fort Wayne. It is in an okay addition, nothing fancy, at all. But they were paying $1200.00 a month for a house that was MAYBE worth $70,000. This house was a split level home with a basement, a main floor and an upstairs. It had 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room, a little sun room off the back of the house, a hot tub (that didn't work), and a shed (full of the landlords shit). When they (Jason, Habart his best friend, Briggs and Isaac, other good friends) moved in 11 months ago they were so excited to finally be living in a house, instead of an apartment. They were just renting though and the landlords (a younger couple with 2 small children) made it all official and had a really nice lease made up that covered all the bases, or so they thought.

So they got the house last July, we go to move their stuff in and the house was DISGUSTING! They had dog food in the cabinets (they haven't had a dog in years), there were spider webs everywhere, the carpets upstairs smelled like urine, the bathrooms hadn't been cleaned in months, the refrigerator had hamburger blood under the drawers, the stove and oven had quite possibly NEVER been cleaned. And I seem to have LOST the pictures that I did take :( I swear to you .. you would die if saw what they were using to cook. Needless to say, we have to do some major cleaning before they could move in.

The hot tub was not working when they moved in, but the landlord said that he would have it fixed in a couple weeks. That turned into the end of September, which turned into the end of October, which then turned into the beginning of winter. Eventually, they just said they were going to take it out and reduced their rent $100 from then (January) on. The shed which was still full of their (the landlords) shit, was promised to be emptied in a reasonable amount of time, that way the guys could store their stuff their. Well you see, they just moved out on June 30th, and the shed that I speak of, is still full of the landlords shit.

Briggs likes to come up with some fairly odd concoctions, so he turned the stove top on and it sparked at him! They tried to fix it and were unsuccessful, so they called the landlord (whose ringback tone is .. Vibrate, by Petey Pablo) and let him know. He did nothing about it.

In November, it got reasonably cold here, the guys went to turn the heat on and guess what? There was no heat on the main floor, or in the basement, except for the one bedroom. Which later, all of the heat in the house went out. They called the landlord and he said he would install baseboard heaters, and did not, until the end of January. Then, he installed ONE heater on the main floor.

In December, we had horrible ice storms and a pipe broke and flooded what we like to call the Party Patio! Jason called the landlord, he came over, said "Well, I guess there is nothing we can do about it now, we'll just wait until the spring and fix it." Well, little did this genius know, an all glass Party Patio, 3 inches of standing water, and an ice storm, the water will freeze and break all the windows, then melt and mold the whole room. Which really wouldn't matter anymore if the room was gone, but you get the point.

Jason borrowed a 5 gallon shop vacuum, from a guy he works with, and sucked all of the water out of the Party Patio. I know, I know, he is WAY too nice!

In February, the dish washer went out, they called the landlord, he said "Run some vinegar thru it, that should work." So, they did that, among other things their mothers and the internet suggested and nothing worked. And nothing ever got done by the landlord.

In order to even get a hold of the landlords, they would have to call their cell phones multiple times, before they got a response and 9 times out of 10 Jason was the one who had to call and get shit straightened out. The husband was the only one who ever got back with them and the only one who ever came over and attempted (if you could call it that) to listen to their problems, I mean he really didn't do anything else.

Jason and I went over there at 12:30 to start cleaning, I was there until 5:30 and Jason stayed until 7:30. We cleaned everything from top to bottom. We cleaned the refrigerator, the cabinets, swept and mopped all the rooms, the garage, the Party Patio, etc.. I should have taken pictures of how his roommates left it. Jason hasn't lived there since June 10th and they weren't counting on getting their deposit back so they just left it a horrible mess, similar to what they moved in to.

This was the trash we had gathered, before I had to leave, except for 3 huge garbage bags that were still in the house. It was simply ridiculous. We could have fed a small family in Africa with the amount of food that got thrown away.

So, on June 30th they had the final walk thru and guess who shows up? The wife, all by herself. Jason and Briggs were the only ones who wanted to be there, the other guys had better things to do with their time. They had all just kind of accepted that they wouldn't be getting their deposit back, because the landlords were just douche bags. But Jason was going to fight for his.

She said, "I bet you are wondering why my husband isn't here? He didn't want to mess with you (Jason) he said you chew into him when you talk to him and I AM THE ONLY ONE THAT GETS TO CHEW INTO MY HUSBAND." Oh my.

They go thru, she was pleasantly surprised with how great everything looked, but said "If you think you are getting your deposit back, your not." Jason was prepared for this, so came up with a list of the aforementioned things and gave it to her. He said look at all the bull shit we had to deal with and she said and I quote, "I never knew about any of this." OHMYGOSH! Are you fucking kidding me? She is trying to claim that her husband never shared why he was going over there and receiving calls every other week with complaints about this piece of shit house! She continued with, "Did you write these problems down and submit them to us?" Well, no they didn't, but they have phone records of calling them all the time and I know that isn't much, but it has got to be worth something!

So, Jason said, "You will be hearing from me", because he didn't feel like dealing with her and wanted to talk to his sister, who is in law school. She is doing some research and will hopefully come up with something.

Ahhhh I feel somewhat better about letting my anger out on here! I will keep you all posted on what happens, please pray that Erin (Jason's sister) comes up with something, anything!

Jack Johnston **

I have not been blogging much lately, because I have been exceptionally busy && I don't always know what to say to keep people interested. So, I have finally decided to blog a little bit about my brother .. hopefully you will learn to enjoy him as much as I do :)

Jack is 11 years old and he was born when I was 9 & 1/2. Growing up I was a very responsible young lady and my parents trusted me to watch their two children, when they went out for dinner or to run short errands, etc .. At the time Alexandria (I will blog about her some other time) was 6 & 1/2 and Jack was a newborn.

I think that since he and I are so far apart in age, that he was more of a son to me (not literally, but we never argued or anything like that && my parents were always around. I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea about this.) I was always there to help, whether it was to feed him, change diapers or put him to bed. I loved helping out!

My dad is in the Air National Guard and when he would go on trips I would help my mom out by getting Jack to and from practices and games, when she had to work. Since he started playing sports, I could probably count on two hands the games that I have missed .. and this includes the past year and a half when I have lived across town. I drive 20 minutes at least twice a week to cheer him on.

During the spring && summer he plays baseball. He currently bats 4th in line up .. which is awesome .. but he is also in a batting slump .. so I don't know how he is keeping his position! He is a great catcher, he isn't so into pitching, but they need him to .. so we try to get him more into it .. it is an insane amount of pressure on a young man though .. all those people saying, "Common Jack, just relax." or "Jack just throw strikes." Have you ever tried to 'just throw strikes'? Let me tell you .. not as easy as it looks. But he is getting better! And when he is not pitching or catching, he plays short stop.

Last summer Jack && I went to Cedar Point for the day. We got up on an overcast Tuesday morning at 7 and made the 3 hour drive. PERFECT day ! It only sprinkled once around lunch time, so we went out to the car to eat the lunches that we had packed. I was exhausted, so he sat there while I took a 20 minute power nap, because I had to drive us home that night, and it was sprinkling so we couldn't ride rides anyways. THen we went back and we rode EVERY roller coaster that we wanted to, with minimal waits! It was quite possibly one of the best days ever :)

In the fall Jack plays football, FINALLY ! I have been waiting since the day he was born for him to play football ! I love it so much ! Last year he was in 5th grade && played quarter back for the 6th grade team ! Very exciting ! He also played other positions && played both offense && defense, since it is such a young team, they are trying to figure out what everyone is good at. I think he enjoys football so much, because he never had anyone to rough house with && now he does.

And finally, in the winter Jack plays basketball. He usually plays in the forward position, but has been known to play both center and guard as well. I think he really likes basketball the best, but I really hope he keeps up with the other two .. (I like them the most!)

I also took him snowboarding last year .. but somehow all of those pictures have disappeared except for one .. and it's not even of him boarding :( But he really liked that too ! We went down the black diamond at this particular park (which is in Ohio, so it is really just a big hill), but we went down that on our 4th trip down maybe, and he wiped out and took out a caution sign .. he was fine .. so it is now okay to laugh .. but I was afraid for my life!

Finally, like a good sister, I like to show Jack, what not to do .. My boyfriend, Jason and his former roommates work with my dad .. so for one of their birthdays he stopped by the party with my brother .. like any good sister, I let him play beer pong .. relax he just drank mountain dew ! but now he will be somewhat prepared for what the future holds !

All in all my brother Jack is an amazing young man && I would never even consider trading him for anything else in the entire world ! I love having him call me at 1 am during the summer, because he knows that I will be up too ! Just to talk, even though I saw him today. Or when he calls me to remind me that he has a game, "But, Kaiti you don't have to come to these." I love him so much and would so absolutely anything just for him.

I wanted to wait to write this post, until I got pictures from this weekend .. but it already seems to be taking me a bit to do just that .. and I haven't had a real blog in awhile .. so there is some catching up to do :/

Let's see here .. On May 10th, my cousin Korren, her boyfriend Spencer and I traveled about 2 and 1/2 hours north to help our aunt and uncle with their pool business, during the busy season.

Spencer, obviously went out with the guys to help them open pools and things of that nature the whole time he was there .. (he wound up staying for 3 weeks straight). Korren and I went out with the guys as needed and stayed in the office and helped the girls out as well !

Personally, I enjoyed the office time a little bit more .. I got to talk to the women who work there .. and they are a bit more interesting then the guys I was working with ! The only bad part I found about working inside all day .. was that I never knew what the weather was like .. I would get in around 730 or 8 .. and not leave until 6 or so .. (I was packing my lunch).

However, I got to enjoy the best (and worst) of both worlds .. and I would go back in a heartbeat if they would ask me to ! I was working there Monday thru Thursday and coming home on the weekends to work at my other job, see my family, friends, and boyfriend .. it was a lot, but well worth it :)

On the Friday before the Indy 500, my dad and I went down to Indy for Carb Day ! We have been going, for as long as I can remember .. usually my sister and brother go, but they both had field day at their schools and didn't want to miss it. So, we went alone and had a great time. We both drank a little. I haven't drank in awhile and the heat was crazy .. so I nearly got sick :/ But I toughed it out ! As I was walking to the restroom .. there were cops riding motorcycles to go to the infield, and one turned and laid his bike down and it git stuck between the ground and a handrail .. (stiffed a giggle) .. and OF COURSE I did not have my camera or my phone. Probably for the best though !

That day, was my grandma's 70th birthday ! Upon our return from Indy, we went out to celebrate her birthday with my family. Never a dull moment with the Johnston family .. let's just leave it at that.

Then, this past weekend we went to Pokagon, for a SURPRISE birthday for her ! She thought that she was going to my cousin Jared's 23rd birthday party with all of his friends .. ! I think she was a lot happier with this party though :)

She got there and we were all hiding in one cabin .. she came up and knocked, we opened the door and yelled 'SURPRISE !' she was so excited ! Then we all started to sing Happy Birthday and I grabbed the cake and walked over to her .. and the next thing I know, my aunt is hitting me .. my hair had caught on FIRE ! Thank God, it only singed some .. I haven't noticed much other loss ! The rest of the night went very well and the next morning we all got up and went home.

That about catches me up .. more blogs to come :) Hopefully closer together so I don't have to go back and recap so much !

Busy , Busy Bee **

Last night Jason and I watched a movie .. that didn't end until pretty late, so I just stayed at his house. Which I only do on late nights, or when I have been drinking. Totally not the point though ..

Today we woke up at 8:07, went to the bank and got Jason's money, for his weekly budget. Then we went to the donut shop in Georgetown Square, I got a 'bear claw' and a sprite .. Jason got a sprinkle donut, a sugar twist donut, a glazed donut and a cup of coffee .. big eater :) Then we went next door to SCOTTS (grocery store) .

We go grocery shopping together every week .. since I live way on the other side of town and go to school out by his house, I usually go there during my breaks, and after school for a bit .. which means that I eat lunch and dinner there fairly often . So, I pay for part of his groceries every week or grab some to go food .. to compensate for how much he spends .

Since Jason has his budget ($70), and I only have so much money to help with his groceries and groceries for my place .. we have to make a list every week .. which typically consists of chicken, hamburger, cereal, milk, gatorade, pizza, various fruits and vegetables, mac n cheese, suddenly salad .. things of that nature . Well, because we went straight from our donut breakfast, we had forgotten to make a list .. therefore we went grocery shopping sans 'The List" .. we're dare devils :) and guess what ? we spent $65.43 . WAHOO ! We did even better without it :)

Then we went back to his house and since none of his 3 roommates were there, we decided to do some Spring cleaning and yard work, because it was such a nice day :) When we arrived, his landlord, wife and 2 kids were there .. doing yard work .. which would not be a big deal, but this past winter, we had horrible ice storms and obviously freezing temperatures .. and they didn't have heat for months .. and they did nothing bout it, until being called multiple times on end . Which is absolutely ridiculous .

So, we began cleaning inside and they left about 20 minutes later .. then Jason went out and mowed the whole yard .. then raked it and mowed it again .. (to put it simply, it was very long !) While he was doing that, I cleaned both of the bathrooms (scrubbed everything down, even the ceiling, remember we are dealing with 4 young men), the kitchen (swept and mopped) .. then we had to get ready for Jacks first game !

His game was supposed to be at 1:15, but the diamonds, were really moist, so they had to push all the games back .. Jack's was then supposed to start at 2:00 .. then got moved up to 1:45 .. we did all kinds of running around :) But we made it there just in time !

It was the Tigers (Jack's team) vs. the Cubs .. Jack started off catching (caught for 3 innings), then pitched (the last 3 innings) and batting 5th .. he struck out the first time :( .. the second time he was up he hit a single .. and the third time he was up he hit a short one towards the third base line .. and made it a double, then the Cubs over threw the ball and he wound up with a HOME RUN ! They ended up winning 6 to 4 . YEAH !

After that, we went to my parents house .. today was Alex's junior prom .. she went with Austin, her boyfriend for quite some time .. my mom and I helped her get ready .. she looked beautiful .. hopefully I will get some pictures, and post them soon :)

After prom, at her high school, they have a thing called 'After Prom' (conveniently) .. a way to give kids a safe and fun environment to hang out after prom :) I went when I was in high school, and it may sound nerdy, but it was really awesome .. they have businesses donate money or prizes and it only costs the students $1 .. in previous years, they have had a 'Titanic Slide', segways, and a casino area, to name a few .. then they have amazing food and beverages as well :) Then, all night there are opportunities to get tickets, to place in several different prize options .. that vary from a lap top, to a flat screen t.v., to a futon, or a microwave, they also have some gas cards, which are always good :) Then at the end of the 'night' .. more like the morning (it runs from midnight to 5 am) .. they draw names for each of the prizes :)

My parents are helping out at after prom, and Jack didn't want to stay home alone .. Jason said he could come over and hang out with him .. since I had to baby sit tonight for a couple hours .

So, I went out and baby sat, then went home to grab clothes, and decided to take a quick shower .. I removed my clothes and got in, looked down .. and I still had my bra on .. who does that ? My mom said I am just too busy :)

Now, Jason, Jack and I are watching 21 .. GREAT movie :)

Nighty Night

Today was supposed to be Jack's first baseball game of the year .. actually it was just a practice game .. but I was still very excited :) But since we have had an overdose of rain the past couple days, it was cancelled. Very sad, but I will live until Saturday .. OPENING DAY !

Alex didn't make prom court this year and she is rather upset about it .. in hopes of consoling her, I let her know that I was NEVER on the homecoming court or prom court .. and I lived. But of course it is very upsetting at the time. She's a strong girl, she will move on just fine :)

Jason and I got in a little dispute during lunch today .. which caused me to peel out of the parking lot and drive to my parents (before I knew Jack's game was cancelled) .. I accidentally left my phone in my car and Jason was worried about me, because it was raining out and he knows that I enjoy driving rather quickly, no matter what the weather conditions .. I know, I know .. it is not good .. but I do it. So when I finally found the motivation to get it, I had one missed call and two text messages .. all from him .. which made me feel a little better.

When I got to my parents, I talked to my mom about it .. she said I probably was just over reacting and need to calm down ..

I wound up going to his house on my way home, because he wanted to talk. So, we talked through it and everything is fine now.

Now, I am trying to study .. and his roommates are playing Rainbow6Vegas in his room .. and it is cold downstairs .. I tried. I am about to just call it quits and pack up.

We are trying to plan my 21st birthday bash in Las Vegas .. come to find out .. it is really expensive and difficult to plan .. no one can agree on anything .. AGH . Hopefully things will start falling into place soon :)

Grandpa Jim **

About 2 months ago, on Wednesday February 25th, around midnight, my grandpa Jim (my mom's dad) was taken to Lutheran Hospital by an ambulance.

The following day, I received a call from my dad .. telling me what had happened the night before and that my grandpa was not doing so great .. I may want to come up that day and see him. I told my dad that I would be there after classes that day, I had an accounting test that I needed to take.

Around 3:00 my sister Alex called me. She informed me that grandpa Jim was doing worse and she was headed up to see him right then. So, I met her at Lutheran (and had my friend Angie tell my professor that I would not be there for the test).

We got there at the same time and walked into a completely somber room .. together.

In the room was my mom (daughter), dad, aunt Lisa (daughter), aunt Karen (daughter), uncle Eric, aunt Roselyn, uncle Jim(son), and uncle Tone (son). My aunt Amy was in the hallway, we had passed her on our way in, she was on the phone with my aunt Deb (daughter), in Texas.

My grandpa just laid in the hospital bed, he could no longer speak and barely moved at all.

After being there for a little while .. (not sure of times, it is still a big blur) and nurses coming in and out checking his vitals .. my grandpa opened his eyes .. which he had not done yet .. and began shaking ..

Now, I had never seen a seizure before, but I was pretty sure that's what was happening (it was). We got a nurse to come in and she put something in his IV to prevent him from having any more seizures.

Let me tell you, I come from a fairly strong family.

I have only seen my mom cry, maybe 3 times in my whole life. And one of those times was when her mother, Ruth, passed from colon cancer .. more about that some other day. My dad has been coming and going overseas with the Air National Guard, since 2 weeks after I was born and even before they were married, and she never shows/showed any negative emotion. Same with the rest of my family, the only time I have seen them sad was when my grandma Ruth, their mom, passed.

And there was not a dry eye in the room.

Before my sister and I left that night, around 9:00, we both went up to my grandpa and held his hands. They were incredibly warm, actually they were incredibly hot. But we sat there and took turns talking to him and trying ease the tension and moods for my mom and her sisters. (Everyone else had either gone home to be with their children or went to get something to eat at the cafeteria). We both said good bye and kissed him good night on the forehead.

This was the 26th of February and my lease was up on the 28th. So, I was in the process of moving all my things over these couple days.

On Friday, the 27th, I went up to the hospital around noon. I was there for about 3 or 4 hours and I told everyone I would be back later that evening, I had some moving to get done. I kissed my grandpa Jim on the forehead and said good bye. Then took a load of my stuff to my new house, went back to my apartment and filled my car up again.

On my way over to my house again, at 7:15, I got the worst call of my life. It was my brother Jack ..

Jack: Kaiti, grandpa's dying, I got to go.

Me: Wait, what?

Jack: He's dying right now, we are on the way to the hospital.

Me: Okay, I will meet you there.

I took off like a bat out of hell in the opposite direction, to Lutheran Hospital. Of course, I got stuck behind slow drivers, but everything happens for a reason.

I called my Alex immediately and let her know what was going on (she was at Austin's, her boyfriends last basketball game). She asked me if she should come up, I told her it was up to her. He would probably already be gone by the time she made it out there and she didn't want to see him how we had the day before.

I got to the hospital and ran up to the room. And there stood my mom, hunched over the hospital bed, staring at him and crying, and saying that it was not fair.

(My mom had been at the hospital since Wednesday night and had left at 6:30 to go home and shower, change her clothes and come back up for the night and next however long. All her sisters and brothers had taken their turns going home and doing the same. Granite my uncle Jim was at his sons basketball game, but everyone else was there when he passed. She got the call not 2 seconds after she got home, walked in the door and put her purse down. My dad had lit candles for her and drew her a hot bath, so she could hopefully relax and take her mind off things for a bit. So they blew the candles out and took off, back to the hospital.)

Jack was the only one there who was younger than me, and Jessica was the only other grand kid up there at the time. She is 3 years older than me. The rest was my aunts and uncles, my aunt Deb was on the phone.

We all just sat there in disbelief, most of us cried. My dad tried to ease the tension, by talking about what a wonderful person my grandpa Jim was.

It was quite possibly one of the worst nights of my life.

So, today marks 2 months, since he has been gone, and I still feel like I am in a horrible dream, that will not stop.

I think about him every single day and usually cry about the memories a couple times a week. People say I just need to accept it and move on, but I am not sure just how I am supposed to do that.

My grandpa Jim, was one of the strongest people I knew. And with that, we were are not a family to ever really hug or say I love you. But when I went to see him I always gave him a hug good bye and very seldom said I love you.

I sent him cards, on every holiday, baked him desserts, and spent as much time with him as I could .. whenever I did not have something 'better' to do. And let me tell you that is not easy to type, but it is the truth. I regret nothing more then being too 'busy' to go spend time with him.

I love you grandpa .. and I will never forget you .. ever.

Remembering and Honoring LCPL MIchael Ford

3 years ago today, my dad was in Iraq. In addition to his regular job as a First Sergeant for the Air National Guard, he was working in the hospital there, on base. He had been doing it since January, when he had first arrived to the 'war'. He had several different duties, which included, but where no limited to, helping carry injured people in from the helicopters .. in the middle of the night, with no lights on .. (that way they would not be a target, for attack) he also folded blankets, got people whatever they needed, and sat and talked to them, because, they had no one there to be in the hospital with them.

On that 26th, day of April, (not sure if it was Wednesday there, as well as here or not .. or if it was morning or night .. but that all really does not matter) my dad sat with a young man (just 19 years old), named LCPL Michael Ford. He was a soldier for the United States Marine Corp, assigned to the 1st Tank Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twenty-Nine Palms, California.

He had been severely injured while conducting combat operations, against enemy forces in Al Anbar province, Iraq.

This is really not a subject that my dad spends a lot of time, if any, discussing .. so I do not know all the details, but what I do know .. is that my dad sat there that day and held his hand .. while he died.

And to tell you the truth, he has never been the same .. I do not know if it is just because of the war in general, or working in the hospital in general, but my dad is a completely different person. I will write more about that some other time.

A couple months after my dad returned from Iraq, he was having a difficult time dealing with this, he still to this day has nightmares, about being with LCPL Ford, as he passed. But he wrote a letter to his family, telling them that he was with their son and brother, when he died, and sent his condolences. A couple weeks after that, he received a small package and in it was a silver bracelet, with no note or anything, and it had the inscription, LCPL Michael Ford, April 26th, 2006. My dad, put it on that day .. and he does not take it off.

So, this is my tribute to all those serving out great country, those who have given their time, their effort, and some .. their lives.

Please take a moment every day to remember those who are over seas fighting for our freedom .. and for their families and friends back at home .. it is very difficult for them as well.

Not for fame or reward .

Not for place or rank .

Not lured by ambition or goaded by necessity

But in simple obedience to duty

Final bit .. if you have a some extra money, which not many of us do, times are tough, I understand. But think of those men and women over their fighting, for us .. Pick up a few small things, put them in a box, and ship them overseas. They are greatly appreciated by all, and help to take away the pain of being far from home and family.

(Things they need and or would like to have, include .. Snacks, not chocolate .. it will melt .. mind games, personal items, such as q-tips and fingernail clippers .. magazines, newspapers, etc ..)

Recap of my week **

A lot has happened to me in the past week ..

I have spent a lot of time reading up on baby Stellan, figuring out just what everyone was talking about .. and I have also spent a lot of time praying for him, his mom, his family, and the doctor's that are taking care of him .. and if you don't know his story or even if you do .. please remember to keep all of them in your thoughts and prayers as well .. and continue to wear orange on Tuesdays, until Stellan is all better :)

Now on to a more personal matter, that is definitely less important .. Jason and I had our first real fight since we have been back together .. (January) .. which is not too bad .. seeing as though the reason we broke up previously was because of how much we fought .. it was a silly fight, about how much time we spend together .. something that means a lot to me, but not so much to Jason .. the main point is that we are trying to find ways to spend more time together, which includes me not driving across town every day .. hopefully it all starts to work out :)

Jason started hanging out with Joel over the past couple weeks .. they have a couple classes together .. so they study together, and not they started hanging out on a regular basis .. Joel is a really nice guy .. I think that him and Jason are positive influences for one another :)

A couple of my friends have been dating for a couple months and they decided to buy a house together .. a brand new house on the north side of town, they went out and bought all new appliances, and now .. they are rethinking their house buying .. things aren't going as perfectly as they had been .. but, on a positive note, they have all the paperwork filled out, but they have not closed on it yet .. so I believe that they have decided to just rent something first .. which we all think is a better idea .

We had our garage sale last weekend .. and it went over really well .. i had 4 tubs of clothes, shoes, and purses .. and I left with just 1 clothes basket of stuff :) very exciting, and I will now be trying to sell the rest of my stuff on eBay .. I am putting all the money that I have made, in my Las Vegas fund :) My parents, Jason, me, and some of my parents friends are planning a trip to Las Vegas, for my 21st birthday ! I can't wait !

On Tuesday night .. I had a girls night at my house .. Korren, Stevie, Kirstie, Christy, Natalie, Brittany and me .. we had an awesome time, playing drinking games, and catching up on how much we have missed out on since we haven't had a girls night recently .. hopefully we can continue on with it .. I love those girls so much :)

Tonight we, (Jason, Joel, and I) attended our first Tin Caps game .. Dollar beer night, now they are both passed out in Jasons bed together .. guess that sums up how much they drank :)

This weekend, we are supposed to go camping with our friends, but I am supposed to work .. I really want to go though .. so we'll see if I can get someone to work for me.

My Week Thus Far ..

This week has been fairly busy .. preparing for the garage sale at my parents this weekend, practicing for my communications speech .. that I had today .. and helping Jason study for his cdc's .. all kind of random ..

Tonight, I am staying out at my parents, to do my part in helping with the garage sale tomorrow. And I will be back out here on Saturday morning. Hopefully we are busy busy !

I spent the past two weeks, preparing for the longest 5 minutes of my life. I put the speech to a power point and timed it, so it was 5 minutes and 7 seconds .. (we get 30 seconds either way) .. so I got up there did my thing .. and the teacher asked me how long I thought I spoke for .. I said "uhhh, 5 minutes and 7 seconds?" and he responded with, "Actually, you only talked for 3 minutes and 48 seconds .. but I know that you had it timed out .. so I won't doc you for it." To my self .. I Thanked God .. the last thing I needed was a bad grade on this speech. Actually I nearly passed out twice .. I was sweating like crazy and my neck got splotchy .. it was bad .. but I lived .. so all is well :) But he continued with, power point times work differently on different computers .. so that's why it was so far off .. incase you ever want to use one .. be careful :)

Every night this week has been spent at Jason's, helping him study for his cdc test (some test he has to take, and pass to work in the Air National Guard). He is so smart, he just gets himself worked up .. he has 3 books that he has to memorize and he knows almost every single question :)

On Easter my cousin Jessica got engaged .. I have 38 cousins .. and she is the 2nd one to get married .. I am soooo excited for her :) Hopefully it will be me soon :)

Welp .. it's almost 1 am and I need to be up around 7 .. so I better get to bed.

Today is the big day ! After several weeks of reading my aunt's blog, I have decided to join as well. So, forgive me, because it will most likely take me awhile to get the hang of this. Hopefully it will be sooner than later though :)

I currently attend IPFW University, for Business .. not sure which direction yet .. but I am working on figuring it out ! I work as a waitress at Nine Mile Restaurant and I clean a couple houses to help bring the money in :) I live on the Northwest side of Fort Wayne, so it is quite a drive, to wherever I want to go .. except Wal - Mart .. which is just two minutes away .. yay !

I recently got really into yoga and I love it ! It is an amazing relaxer and completely helps me to get my mind off of everything. Other then yoga, I just study, clean, and hang out with my friends. I also enjoy crocheting .. which my grandma taught me how to do at the age of 7 .. I am working on a blanket for my bed and am about 1/3 of the way done :)

I have one sister and one brother.

Alex will be 18 in June .. so for mother's day, we are going to take my mom gambling at Soaring Eagle .. can't wait ! Alex and I are pretty close and talk to each other fairly often, I wish we were a little closer though .. but I hear that comes with time .. hopefully :)

Jack turned 11 in December and just got done playing basketball and will now start with baseball .. which I love and he is now in majors .. which hopefully means more competition and excitement ! I really enjoy going out to watch him participate in sporting or school events. We talk to one another nearly everyday .. that way we can stay close . since I no longer live at home .

I recently lost my grandpa Jim .. and have a more difficult time accepting it .. then I ever imagined that I would .. but as with everything, it will just take time .
